Contact: Crossroads Carnegie Art Center 2020 Auburn Avenue Baker City, Oregon 97814 (541) 523-5369 email: xrds@q.com Artist Bios: Denise Elizabeth Stone A lifelong photographer and occasional artist, Denise made the leap into fulltime art in 2006. She has worked in pastels, colored pencil, and watercolor. Her signature medium is batik watercolor, an intricate process that uses handmade Nepalese paper, watercolor or gouache, wax, and ink to create paintings that are creative descendents of the traditional silk and cotton batik fabrics. Denise’s art training has come from classes and workshops taught by talented local artists, distance education classes from a community college, and collegial art experiences with artist friends. She is mostly self-taught. Her work has been shown at regional festivals and art shows, at local venues such as Art Walk, and at various arts and crafts shows. In New Mexico, she participated in the Los Alamos Studio Tour and various festivals. Her work is sold through her home studio, The Rowdy Goddess, and website, www.therowdygoddess.com., as well as at local and regional galleries, including Edge Gallery, ArtsEast, and The Blue Turtle Gallery, in La Grande; and Crossroads Gallery and Earth & Vine Art and Wine Gallery in Baker City. Suanne AchillesMy father was a master jeweler. His influence inspires me even today as I create beautiful jewelry from fine metals and semiprecious stones. I have been an artist for many years and in many mediums, including drum building, painting and animal portraiture. My family and friends have always supported my artistic endeavors but never to the extent they are supporting and encouraging my jewelry. At this time I am passionate about jewelry and am displaying my work under the signature label of “SUZ” at Marie Josephine’s in La Grande and Kelly’s on Main Gallery in Joseph, Oregon. My jewelry was awarded an honorable mention at the 2008 Season’s Faire. My jewelry is unique: it includes a signed and dated certificate of authenticity and a “SUZ” charm attached to each piece. A recent series of necklaces is based on fruits and includes one made from watermelon agate, onyx and jade. I am also developing necklaces based on the colors of the seasons. Jewelry offers me unending inspiration. As I delve into the creative process of jewelry making I understand more and more the life work of my father and appreciate the encouragement and inspiration he has given me. |
