(Terrebonne)

About the Artist: Jyoti has a degree in art and has taught fiber arts in a variety of settings for more than 15 years. She is a professional weaver and is the Fiber Arts teacher at Sagewood Waldorf School in Bend.

Residency Objectives: The students will learn vocabulary for weaving on a loom and terms related to fibers. Learning stations will be used so students can experience "hands-on" weaving. Stories of indigenous peoples and how they used fibers from their environments will be included in this residency. Jyoti will bring 30 small wooden table looms, ideal for beginners, so up to 30 students can use these during the residency. Other students will make cardboard looms. Activities will include: nature weaving, spinning wool and silk from cocoons using spinning hooks, dyeing wool fleece, sun looms, finger woven chains, dream catchers and a class weaving on a large table loom. Stories will be told about fibers from around the world.

Staff and Community Offerings: Demonstration of weaving and spinning various fibers. Demonstration of simple methods of dyeing and felting wool.

Facilities and Supplies: Classroom or large space where floor loom can be set up and remain safely untouched, tables for learning stations.
