About the Artist: Artist has background working with dance teams and is currently the Eastern Oregon University dance team adviser. Patricia has her own dance studio in La Grande where she teaches nearly 100 students.
Residency Objectives: Students will perform varied activities through games and exercise that highlights the concepts of movement. They will develop an understanding of various techniques and vocabulary used in dance forms. They will participate in warm-up exercises to prepare the body for dance and movement. They will learn specific choreographed dances in preparation for a final dance showcase at the end of the residency.
Staff and Community Offerings: Artist is available for community master class in the following areas: Creative dance: Age 3-Adult, Jazz dance: Age 5-Adult, Ballet: Age 7-Adult, Modern dance: Age 7-Adult, and Hip hop: Age 9-Adult.
Facilities and Supplies: Large gym-type room, preferably not concrete or carpet. Wood is best! Space must be free of furniture, desks, etc. Need an electrical outlet for music source. Need adequate lighting.
Material Costs: None.
Connection to other Subjects Dance is connected to many academic subjects such as theater and literature through storytelling through movement, math through its use of counting and physical formations that are part of a choreographed piece, science through dance’s expression of our natural surroundings and examination of human anatomy through movement.
